The RNLI saves lives at sea.

Margaret was born on 5th May 1931 in Torry, Aberdeen. She had a happy childhood but at the age of 11yrs, she was devastated when her dad was lost at sea during the Second World War, when he was serving with the Royal Naval Reserve. Her family were all involved in the fishing industry in various ways, and she continued the tradition by becoming a fishing-net braider when she left school.

Margaret married Harry when she was 19 – they’d met at school and become an ‘item’ after they’d both left, getting engaged a couple of years later. They had two healthy boys, first Graeme, then Stewart, after the sad loss of their first-born Roselyn, who had died at only three weeks old.

Over the years, Margaret & Harry and family enjoyed many fun camping & caravanning holidays, many by the sea-side. Graeme & Stewart were both married, adding four grandchildren to Margaret’s family. Walks along various seashores were very much enjoyed and Margaret often mentioned how much she admired the men, and later on, the women of the RNLI, commenting on how brave they were.

Her health began to deteriorate but she was much cheered by the addition of two great-grandchildren in the past 19 months.

Walks along the seashore were still enjoyed, albeit with the aid of a wheelchair, and her greatest wish was that the men & women of the RNLI should be honoured by a collection at her funeral. She would have been very pleased to know that a total of £250 has been donated in her name, and many thanks are passed on to all who attended and paid their last respects to this kind and generous wife, mum, grannie, great-grannie and friend. Loved and missed by all.
