Ray died in Grimsby hospital after a long illness. His ashes was scattered from the Humber Lifeboat in the same place as Betty his late wife who died 10 years earlier. Ray was a fanatic Lifeboat supporter. Becoming one of the proudest men in Grimsby when his step son. Dave Steenvoorden (Spanish) became Superintendent Coxswain of the Humber Lifeboat station.
