Stephen died suddenly from a heart attack on 18th January 2008 aged 54. He is greatly missed by wife Jill and children Katie and Robert.
Born in Barnsley Stephen was a keen diver and began this sport in 1968. He progressed through his BSAC training to be come a regional instructor. His love of the sport has been passed onto Katie and Robert as they are both divers. He was well aware of safety and was well know as 'Gadget man' amongst his friends at Chapeltown BSAC [Sheffield].He spent many an hour training people and encouraging them to enjoy life below the surface. His love of diving took him to many Greek islands over the years, but finally to Naxos where a reef has been named in his memory.
He was a busy teacher and Nasuwt Secretary in Barnsley but still had time to enjoy football, rugby, cricket and family life.
He respected the power of the sea and greatly appreciated the work of the RNLI especially the Bridlington crew who towed the RIB back to shore after engine failure!
He had a very dry sense of humour and a cheeky grin but was always willing to give time and advice to help others.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
