The RNLI saves lives at sea.

In loving memory of our mother, Nancy Marion Lewis who passed away on the 4th November 2009.

Mum was a strong character, full of life and fun with a wonderful sense of humour. She was a loving mother to four children, all of whom miss her greatly. She gave unconditional love to those she cared about, and was completely unmaterialistic - caring about the intrinsic value of people and things rather than wealth or status.

Mum had a strong desire to do good in the world and after obtaining a degree in Social Science at Durham University, worked as an Area Social Worker for many years. She was a fighter and stood up for what she believed in. She was popular because she had the courage to say things many people agree with but are afraid to say.

In a way mum was born ahead of her time. She was an intelligent and intellectual person who did not just accept the restricted roles open to women at that time. She was never afraid to be her own person.

Mum was a lifelong admirer of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and their work. She often marvelled at the bravery of those who put their lives at risk in order to save others, and regularly made donations to the cause. To this end we decided to make the RNLI one of the charities at mum's funeral.

Mum will be missed by friends and family alike, and especially by Bill, her husband of forty years. She was truly a special and unique person.

We will always love you mum!
