An ex-Royal Navy man specialising in electronics, Steve Carmichael-Timson was a keen diver and side-scan sonar operator, with a special interest in nautical archaeology.

He was involved in a number of searches for wrecked wartime aircraft in Ireland and the Lake District, and last year dived HMS Myngs in the Red Sea.

Most recently Steve was working with Emperor Divers in the examination of a possible historic wreck site in southern Egypt. He managed a website called www.divetheworld.com.

He was a PADI Open Water Instructor. Medic First Aid Instructor. Oxygen First Aid Instructor. Deep Diving Instructor. Underwater Navigation Instructor. Enriched Air Nitrox Instructor. Equipment Speciality Instructor. Underwater Photography Instructor. Search and Recovery Instructor. BSAC Dive Leader. IANTD Advanced Nitrox Diver. IANTD Nitrox Gas Blender. SSI Archaeological Diver. SAA Open Water Instructor. SAA Nitrox Diver. SAA Dive Supervisor CMAS 2 star Instructor. CMAS Nitrox Diver.

He was a brilliant light in the depths of the deep blue sea ...and will be sorely missed...

"Sail forth - steer for the deep waters only, Reckless O soul, exploring, I with thee and thou with me, For we are bound where mariner has not yet dared to go, And we will risk the ship, ourselves and all."
