Jack Kirton

Also known as: Captain Jack.

Jack Kirton was our Dad and was married to Doreen for over 41 years. He was in the Navy and he loved the sea in every way possible, he was always at his happiest when he was messing about on boats.

Although he was born and lived in Luton, Bedfordshire for as long as we can remember he always had a boat of some kind, from a small one with seagull engine, cabin-cruiser to a sailing boat.

He spent many years at his second home "Wells-next-the-sea" in Norfolk, always supporting the local lifeboat and knowing all of the crew was a great pleasure to him. Whilst he was staying at his caravan on the Pinewoods site whenever the lifeboat was called out whatever time of day or night he would be there to see the launch even if it meant following it along the beach and quite often until it returned safe and sound.

He had many friends at Wells they all helped each other out, either with repairing each others boats, going out fishing or just a day out on the high seas, especially after he lost wife. Wells and it's community meant so much to him.

Dad had a couple of operations on both his knees and was regularly seen in Wells on his motorised scooter, but this did not stop him from going out on a boat given half the chance.

Jack Worked in the Tyre business straight from school at the age of 14 and only had time out of this to go into the Navy. When he returned from the sea he was back with the Tyre business and stayed until his retirement. Tyres, boats and the sea were Jack's life.

I am sure many people alongside his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss "Captain Jack"
