The RNLI saves lives at sea.

Duncan Urquhart

Mean, Speke and do Well, these are the words on the Urquhart Clan Crest, simple words but very hard to live one’s life by.
This is in remembrance of Duncan, a very special friend who will always be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all whose path he crossed and hearts he touched.

Duncan was the Urquhart Clan Piper and played his beloved pipes at many a Clan gathering a role that he held in high regard, he formed the Clan Urquhart Highland Pipe Band many years ago and proudly welcomed and encouraged everyone bestowing his love and enthusiasm of pipe music on all. I always found Duncan’s passion very infectious and a never ending source of inspiration. My love of the pipes brought us together for which I will always be very grateful, without realising it Duncan became a mentor not only musically but in my social and family life.

Duncan’s driving force was his love of his family we often sat with a cup of tea and put the world to rights, for me Duncan became a ‘big brother’ and a ‘father figure’ who I could always turn to for guidance no matter what was going on in his personal life this is a void that I fear will never be filled in quite the same way.

During his retirement years Duncan found a love of the sea where he would passionately spend his holidays on or near enjoying every salt stained minute. He was captivated by the natural force and power it commands, the community spirit wrapped around every harbour and of course it great natural beauty.

Duncan pipes are now quiet and resting from a lifetime’s hard work they are part of the man, together they made a formidable team that will be missed by all. Whilst the sound of pipes may no longer drift over the hills of Siddington I am sure that come my day to meet my maker I will be greeted by sound of my dear friend who will have a prime position at the front gates playing his pipes with self same passion and gusto that we all love.

Duncan lived the Clan Moto

As long as hearts remember
As long as hearts still care
We never part from those we love
They are with us everywhere
