Appreciation For Michael Heath By Simon Tate

Mike was a special person, with all the qualities that made him the best friend that anyone could have. Many have already written about Mike's incredible efforts to travel the globe to visit his friends, in fact he sacrificed his own time to enable time to be spent with others.

Over the years Mike made many trips to visit my family in Guilden Morden and took part in many village events. So popular was Mike at these events ranging from wine tasting, hog roasts and quiz nights to safari suppers, that many local residents thought that he actually lived in our village! Mike just had this innate ability to integrate into any group and make new friends, a skill unique to him.

Mike was a brilliant godfather to our oldest daughter, Samantha. He was so thoughtful, always sending postcards from his travels and remembering her birthdays with the most thoughtful of presents. A couple of months before he died he presented Samantha with a beautiful silver necklace in the shape of a leaf, a most moving moment that we will never forget.

I shared so much with Mike over the 25 years that I knew him, that it will be impossible to forget him. He was great fun, intelligent, loving and thoughtful. We had many great nights out and I will make sure that I recount these stories fondly, when I get together with our friends from Dundee University.

Finally I want to add how incredibly brave he was in his battle against a brutal illness. Mike was a real fighter, he never gave up hope and throughout his life was an inspiration to us all.

I will miss you.
