The RNLI saves lives at sea.

Appreciation For Rona Bowman By Graham Kendall

I first met Rona when she moved down to Gosport from London, although as a good friend of my mum Rona had met me long before that! Rona always had a smile on her face and her enthusiasm for water activities was overwhelming!

Rona would offer help or give assistance to anyone, and she made good time for young people, being patient with them and giving all the time they required, always with a smile. Rona was passionate about sailing, and was just as passionate about instructing others and passing on her knowledge of sailing.

The Gosport Explorer Scouts that sailed with Rona thoroughly enjoyed their experience and have gained a new enthusiasm for sailing themselves thanks to their experiences sailing with Rona.

I remember Rona walking her dog, Snoopy, from her house to ours, and whilst Rona would cycle, Snoopy invariably was at the door before Rona! I remember too Rona telling me stories of regularly crossing London on the tube with Snoopy “over her shoulder!” Rona helped too when I moved out, with painting my flat and offering all sorts to help me along the way.

Rona lived every part of her life as a Scout, she was a friend to all, and helped everyone before herself. The world would be a better place if there were more people like Rona. She will be sadly missed.
