Born on 14th October 1933 in Nantyglo, South Wales, only son of David, a Mining Engineer and Jenny, a Nurse, Eric joined the Royal Air Force at 17 and trained as a Navigator before joining 96 Sqn at RAF Alhorn in Germany.Returning to the UK, Eric married his sweetheart and life companion, Wendy, in 1956 and they were joined a few years later by sons David, in 1959 and Christopher in 1963. Eric's career saw him airborne in a multitude of aircraft including Venoms,Victors,Canberras & Buccaneers, culminating in many years on the Nimrod force where he survived a tragic accident, in 1980, which claimed the lives of the two pilots. For the last 16 years of his career he was Officer IC Kinloss Mountain Rescue Team, a job which he loved and to which he devoted his characteristic enthusiasm and courage, both on and off the hill. Retiring from the RAF in 1989, Eric continued to contribute to the community until illness forced him to finally slow down. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather and a loyal friend, he will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have encountered this truly valiant man.
