In memory of our dear brother - husband - father and grand-father who passed away suddenly on December 3rd 2010 at his home in Stocksfield, Northumberland, UK. He was born at Rogerstone, Monmouthshire, to Alice & Tom Wellings on August 17. 1923.

After joining the RAF at the outbreak of WW-2 and following aircrew selection and training in UK, Dennis was posted to #111 Operational Training Unit, Nassau, Bahamas. His flying duties in B-24 Liberators involved anti-submarine patrols over the Western Atlantic and Caribbean and low-flying in conjunction with Leigh-light anti-sub operations.

On completion of operational training in Nassau and ferrying B-24's via Gander, Newfoundland to Prestwick, Scotland, he flew via RAF Mauripur, India, to join 160-Squadron in Ceylon where operations were flown from bases at Ratmalana, Sigiriya, and Kankesanthurai.

Under direction of the RAF Southeast Asia Command, the squadron's B-24 Liberators long-range capability was used in operations over Japanese-occupied Burma-Malaya and Sumatra in dropping supplies and agents to Allied guerilla units operating behind Japanese lines as well as anti-sub operations and mine-laying enemy harbours and shipping lanes.

The final flight of his operational tour in Ceylon was flown on August 7. 1945 aboard Liberator BZ-824. With the war over he returned to UK and discharge from the RAF.

His family is left with many vivid wartime memories of Dennis - especially his love of life as well as shared heart-aches over the losses of his cousin Flt.Sgt.Pilot John Curtis Bevan of 611-Squadron and his best friend Flt.Sgt.(Bomb-Aimer) Terry Richards of Maesglas, Newport, Mon.

While we mourn his passing, we are thankful for his many blessings in life - for the guardian angel that flew with him throughout WW-2 - for good health - happiness, and a devoted wife, children and grand-children.

He will be with us - ALWAYS.
