Stan Benson joined the RAF in 1943 following a brief career in the Air Training Corps and the Home Guard! After initial training at RAF Bridgnorth he was selected for Aircrew Training and trained as a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner. After training he was seconded to 21 Sqdn South African Air Force flying in the B26 Marauder aircraft where he was stationed mainly in Italy. At the end of the war he worked for British European Airways, Cambrian Airways and finally British Airways. Renewing his links with the Air Training Corps, he became OC 440 Sqdn ATC.
