Harry Pletts

My father, Harry, was born in 1919 and joined the RAF as a young man in his teens before war broke out. During the war he served in many campaigns abroad, including, Africa, India, Palestine and Italy. I believe he was in Company B, in Squadron 70 ground crew, as he was an aircraft fitter.
My father did remain in the RAF after the war for a few years as a reserve. He was always proud of his career and service during the war, recounting many tales to us of times he remembered as being some of the best in his life.
After long illness, my father died September 19th, just afew days before his 89th birthday. I now have his medals and photographs and feel proud to have inherited them.
In honour of father's life and service as a war veteran we arranged with the RAFA, of which he was life-long member, to have a Standard bearer and the RAF flag so he could have a military tribute at his funeral. It was very special and everything we could have wished for.
I am so pleased to be able to use this space in honour of my father and in recognition of his war service, which made him very proud.
