My husband Michael Houlden joined the RAF in 1956 at 18. While stationed in Malta he formed a skiffle group which proved popular as Michael was a talented singer and musician.

In 1961 he went into Air Traffic Control at Thorney Island where he was involved in Search and Rescue. He had a horrific helicopter crash in 1964 which ended his career but over the years he became well again.

Michael was known in the jazz world, playing with many bands on double bass, banjo and vocals. I met him in the early eighties and we married in 1986. He travelled the world on the QE2 amongst other ships and we had a good life.

Sometime later he tragically lost his hearing but he studied for a music degree which he achieved in 1999. He had an implant fitted which restored his hearing but his health was failing and he lost mobility.

He died peacefully on the 29th January 2010. He is so loved and sadly missed. We had 28 years together.
