Warrant Officer Harry Palmer 18th October 1920 -29th November 2009

Harry served for 33 years in the R.A.F. He was a rear Gunner on the now famous Lancaster Bomber during the 1939-45 war against Germany.

He flew on a number of bombing missions over enemy territory. It was a perilous Job but they were lucky – always getting back to base despite anti-aircraft fire damaging the plane on several missions.

At the end of the war, harry married Meg. They had two sons and a daughter. The younger son Joined the R.A.F. and has served, so far, 23 years.
Sadly after 41 happy years together Meg died in 1986.

At the age of 55 Harry’s service career came to an end. That was then the official R.A.F. retirement age. He maintained his interest in the R.A.F. until his death.

In 1993 he married Rita. She shared the same interests as Harry. He moved from Wiltshire to her home in Essex and he joined the local A.C.A. branch. Harry and Rita travelled abroad, went to many functions, made lots of friends and enjoyed life together.

Harry was a kind person with a great sense of fun. He was liked by everyone and much loved by his family and friends.

He is sorely missed, particularly by his wife Rita.
