James Arthur Kane was born in the early 1920s, the only son of parents living in South Shore, Blackpool. He attended Roseacre and Highfield road schools and was captain of the football team as well as a corporal in 177 (1st Blackpool) Squadron ATC.

Kane joined the RAF aged 20 and was awarded his wings and a commission over one-and-a-half years later in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Mr Kane and his wife were great supporters of the RAF Benevolent Fund. Mrs Kane sadly died in November 2009 and Mr Kane died in December. They left half their estate to the RAF Benevolent Fund and half to Leonard Cheshire Disability.
