Send to a Friend

My Dad sadly passed away on the 27th april 2009. He would have been 80 on 16th august, so I am glad I can write this as a fitting tribute to him. My Dad joined the RAF in 1946 at the age of 17. From an early age he had been fascinated by radio and aircraft. In his early teens he was a member of the airforce cadets where he learned about radar, and decided that was the trade he would like to work in. He trained as a radar fitter, and then had postings at Lyneham and Germany. This was at the time of the berlin airlift, and Dad told me many stories about his friends and the work he done at that time. My Dad met my Mum, Terry Parsons, in Stafford where She served as a bat woman in the sargeants mess. They married in 1953, and Dad returned to Germany for a while before returning home. Dad left the RAF IN 1955 and settled in the west country with Mum near her family. I had a wonderful childhood, and I have so many fond memories of all the things we did together. Sadly my Mum passed away in 1986, and Dad spent the rest of his years by himself. He was a very proud Grandad to my daughter, Kayleigh. My Dad was very proud of his time spent in the RAF, and in later years he became a member of The Lyneham Old Boys Association. Due to poor health He was unable to take part in any functions they held, but He did love to read about the memories of others in their news letter. My dad always gave me so much love and support, and I will miss him so much. His memories will remain with me forever.
