John Basil Wallscourt Blake Greaves. 1921-2007
John joined the RAF in 1939, and trained in South Africa; as a navigator, he was as a member of 51 squadron, involved in almost every major raid over Germany. John was involved in two crashes and having ditched in the sea on one occasion, became a member of the esteemed Goldfish club!
John had two smart RAF salutes, one traditional and one slightly more unconventional, and usually aimed at any figures of authority. He had very little time for bureaucracy and navigated his own, very individual flight path through life.
John was truly one of a kind; his inimitable and sometime eccentric manner making him unique.
After a relatively short, last skirmish with Alzheimer’s disease, he died peacefully, aged 87, in Basford Hurst Park Nursing Home. Swift and Sure.
