Dad was one of the country's 'Bomber Boys'during the war,serving at RAF Waddington with 463 squadron Bomber Command as a Flight Engineer No 184518 on Lancasters.He joined as ground crew initially,then volunteered for air crew flying with Australians.His first op was on 20/21 December 1943 to Frankfurt and his final op was to Konigsberg on 29/30 August 1944.They did two consecutive tours (46 trips)and the pilot,navigator and rear gunner all received the DFC.He has visited Australia on many occasions for reunions,and was very proud to lay a wreath on behalf of the British airmen at the National War Memorial in Canberra.He shared a lifelong love of dancing with his late wife Kath, whom he met at RAF Waddington(Lincs)where they were both based.He was born in 1920 in Cheshire, and worked for over 25 years at Fothergill and Harvey's, Littleborough Lancs as a loom overlooker and then as a manager.Peter was a member of the Littleborough over 50's club, and an avid gardener and sportsman, playing football until he was 36 years old and badminton until he was 84!.He leaves a daughter Liz,son John,daughter-in-law Val and granddaughters Vikki and Charlotte, to whom he was devoted.Rest in peace dad, you were the best.
