Send to a Friend

My mum Irene maiden name Bell was a corporal in the stores based in RAF SEALAND and a number of other bases around the country. While in WRAF she meet a fellow WRAF Gladys Belsey from London they stayed friends for 62 years and Gladys became my godmother. My dad Harry was in the RAF they met in a dance after the war at the pier dancehall in the Mumbles near Swansea. My mum worked as a supervisor for F W Woolworth before her marriage. Mum and Dad brought up me and my brother in the Mumbles where my dad ran a butchers shop she helped my dad in the shop. She also looked after my grandparents. We later moved to Brynmill where mum belonged to the womens church guild and also helped in the corner greengrocer store. She was very well liked by neighbours and was always willing to help anyone. In later life my dad suffered a massive stroke and visited him every day for three years in a nursing home. In later life she enjoyed her garden bingo puzzle books and going to day centres with her friends. Mum had a stroke three years ago and spent the rest of her life in a nursing home visited by me and my brother and grandchildren and great grandchildren. The local welfare officer for the RAF is a good friend of the family and often visited with flowers. My mum was a caring and loving person who passed away 13th May 2013 and we miss her dearly. Thank you very much for being able to write this on your website. Will contact you with regard to placing a photo in her WRAF uniform.
