Mrs M B Hedges writes [6th June 2011]:

John joined the Home Guard in December 1941 and was then called to service in April 1944. He joined the Queen’s Regiment and was then posted to the Royal Engineers in July 1944. Following lots of training in various trades he landed in India in May 1945 and was stationed at Kankinara where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Whilst in India John was a trade clerk and was part of the entertainment committee for the troops. He suffered from a bout of typhoid / malaria but pulled through ... [read more from Mrs M B Hedges]
