As a young NCO I served at Kitchener Barracks, Chatham, Kent, under the tutelage of the then S/Sgt, later promoted WO2 Jim Guthrie. This was when he was 2i/c of 2(Amphibious)Troop; 24 Field (Course Support) Squadron RE during the early 1970s. I vividly recall being invited to visit Jim and his father over one Christmas leave period, at their home in Edinburgh, and of the genuinely warm reception I received there.
A great leader of men and a splendid individual.

Jim was a life member of the Edinburgh Branch he will be mised by wife andrea and family and all members of the branch the sadness will pass and god will give us peace when the sun go's down we shall remember him
