I first met Ray at the TA Centre in Scarborough. At the time he was President of the Scarborough Branch of the Royal Engineers Association, and was one of the founding members of the same. He was passionate about the Branch and an influential figure in how it developed. He was an outspoken character and not afraid to stand his corner, a good trait to have in an organisation of this type. During trips away Ray would recall wartime memories.
