The Corps of Royal Engineers

23708525 Aged 19 Mike died off Little Bay, Gibraltar as a result of a drowning accident. His body is buried at RAF North Front Cemetery Gibraltar. He was my great friend and weekend walking companion in southern Spain. Tall and blond and with a perpetual easy smile. He could charm the girls in Spain so effortlessly. His death at the Little Bay sea wall construction site is marked by a tiny plaque opposite to where his body was swept away by a huge tidal surge. A few years ago the gravestone was replaced by the War Graves Commission after it was vandalised by local youths. I miss his cheery banter and boundless good humour. I also recall that he owes me 25 pesetas for the last drink we had together in Spain! Not be long now Mike and the first one's on you! Edward Cunningham
