The Corps of Royal Engineers

 

Aged 85 Died very peacefully after a period of failing health. Former Joint Honorary Colonel of the R Mon RE (M) and also did sterling service as the President and a Member of the REA Monmouth Branch. He will certainly be missed by many.

Ted Smeeden was O.C. 20 Field Park Squadron in 36 Army Engineer Regt. when I joined the regiment in April 1953 as a National service 2nd. Lt. in, I think, 24 Field Engineer Squadron. I was priviledged to attend his wedding service as a guest at Stocksfield, Northumberland, and formed part of his guard of honour. He was a fine officer, as far as I was concerned, and very much liked by all ranks.
