John Rowlands writes [5th September 2009]:

I first met George in 1982 and we attended REA meetings in Ripon. His and Anne's house backed onto ours and we quickly discovered we were ex-RE's, George was a lovely man who always went out of his way to help others. Besides being a keen "radio ham" he gave his time to helping with the local sea scouts. I retired and resettled in 2002 in Harrogate contacting George on the phone with a view to taking up the friendship again. Sadly George was taken ill.
