William 'Steve' Yates left us on Sunday 28th February 2010, aged 87.
He had just met his first great-grandson and was as proud of him as anyone could be (first photo).
Steve served with the Canadian '6' Group ['The Ghost Squadron'] stationed at Middleton-St, George during the war (2nd photo). He was the last survivng member of his crew.
In 2002 Steve was surprised with a presentation of his medals at Duxford aviation museum (3rd photo).

There is a lot more information about Steve, including his war story and that of another crew member, Pete Smith, on his website at www.syates.co.uk.

We salute someone who was truly 'one of the old brigade' who helped keep Britain free.
