My dad was so proud to be part of the fire service. It was his life and his passion. He would often come home smelling of smoke and tell myself and my mum stories of what had happened on shift. During the time when fire fighters were allowed to sleep at night my dad would often sleep walk and many tales can be told of the anticts he got up to. My dad fell down the pole once, due to the fact that he was not quite awake at the time, and over took everyone on the way down. This led to many funny comments over the years. He was a popular character at Kettering fire station during his time there, and many of his ex commrades kept in touch after he retired. At his funeral in November 2009, Fred Radcliffe, one of my dads ex colleagues, arranged for an applince to be at the crem. This was a very fitting tribute and bought tears to my eyes.
I was so very proud of my dad, he was not only my dad but he was my best friend and we had many conversations where we would put the world to rights. There is not a day goes by where he is not in my thoughts, and though people say grief gets easier with time, the pain of losing someone so special is very hard to bare. This note is from the heart, and I would like to express my gratitude to all of my dad's ex colleagues for all their support during these sad days.
To my dad,my friend, and the person who made me what I am today. I will be forever grateful and I miss you every day.Sleep tight pops Donna.xxxxx
