Barbara Boyd writes [10 November 2010]:

My dad join Sheffield Fire Brigade on the 4th August 1953, the day I was born. He was proud man, devoted to his family and his job. He was given a commendation by the Chief fire officer for saving the life of a young girl of 15, when he wasn't even on duty. He was one of the few officer to go on strike with his men back in the 7o's.He had a warped sense of humour, was quite shy and would have hated me writing this about him! He worked and studied hard and eventually gained the rank of D.O. He retired in 1984 and missed his work but eventually settled down to gardening in his allotment and helping his family and neighbours. He died peacefully 1st December 2009 and is still greatly missedby his family and all who new him.
