The Fire Fighters Charity

Also known as: Fred.

My Dad died in 1990 but would have been 100 years old on 9th December 2009. He joined the Fire Service in the late 1930s as an auxiliary fireman on a volunteer basis as war with Germany threatened. At that time he was living in Selsdon, Surrey and working for Joseph Rank in London. When war cam he became a full time fireman working throughout the Blitz in London and then later in the war dealing with fires caused by doodlebugs. Although he left the Firs Service after the war ended he continued to keep in contact with many friends amde during the wartime years and it remained until his death a very important and fondly remembered part of his life
