Friends and Relations

Derek joined up initially in 1953 (I think) and was a medic. after 3 years he left but in 1060 he rejoined as a MP. He had to leave on health grounds in 1969. he was married to Doreen and had 5 children.

dad loved his time in the RAF and used to tell us lots of stories including the time he was based on a island (forget where!) where all the men used to go round bare-footed - until they were told that the little snakes they saw there were in fact among the most poisonous!

he had many friends and we have lots of photos of the time he was based in Germany in particular. i don't know the name of most of them but one was known as Nobby.

Dad remained devoted to his wife, mum, and just one week after she died he died too of a broken heart. it is over 2 years now since they died but it seems just like yesterday.

his legacy was 2 sons in the RAF, one son and grandson in the army and a son-in-law in the army. i was the rebel and he got me in the civil servace instead!!
